Not much is known about this theater. Located at the corner of Shelby & Lafayette streets, the Shubert-Lafayette was a legitimate theatre, meaning it did professional quality drama and some forms of musical comedy.

The theater contained elaborate architecture throughout and had murals by Maxwell Parrish.

The theater first opened as the Orpheum in 1911, then changed its name many times later starting in 1915 to reflect the street it was located on.

Last operated as the Shubert-Lafayette, it closed in 1965, and we assume was demolished soon after.

Today the site is now a parking garage for employees of the Dime Building.
